Kean Premises, Brookfield

This photo shows the residence and shop of Captain Job Kean and his wife, Virtue (Hann).

Taken sometime between 1903 and 1931.

The house is still standing. The third floor with mansard roof was removed in 1931, and the servant's quarters were removed sometime after that, perhaps in the 1960s. The house was passed down to Job & Virtue's son Baxter, who then passed it to his nephew Job Kean Jr. Job Kean Jr. sold the property to Bruce Davis, and Bruce passed it on to his daughter, Janet. Janet Davis and Duke Kelloway are the present owners of the house.

The c.1890 shop was designated a historic structure by the Newfoundland & Labrador Heritage Foundation in 1988 and won the Southcott Award for restoration in 2003. It is currently the home of Norton's Cove Studio. www.nortonscovestudio.blogspot.com

This is how the property looks today...
