S.S. Bellaventure


The S.S. Bellaventure, 467 tons,was engaged in the sealfishery for only seven springs, 1909-1915. Her record year was 1910, 35,816 seals; her total 112,135.

We have the following report of her first vayage: "The S.S. Bellaventure struck the seals on March 12th., at 2:00, thirty-eight miles off Gooses Cove Head. The work of killing was continued till the 20th of March, on which date the ship became jammed, and remained so 'til April 4th under Bacalhao Island...Captain Knee is well pleased with the Bellaventure, and says she could not be better in the ice."
